The War Remnants Museum (War Crimes Museum) is currently one of the most interesting museums in Vietnam, drawing approximately a half of million visitors yearly.
War Remnants Museum exhibits many violent images and American military equipment on display, including a helicopter with rocket launchers, a tank, a fighter plane, a single-seater attack aircraft, and a 6,800kg conventional bomb, it's a disturbing reminder of the long and terrible Vietnam War.
During the epic war that lasted from 1945 to 1975, America utilized all of these weapons against the Vietnamese at some point.
The "tiger cages," in which the South Vietnamese government housed political detainees, are one of the most talked-about displays. These small cages, measuring 2.7m x 1.5m x 3m each, were once used to house up to 14 inmates. A guillotine is also there, which is used by the French and the South Vietnamese to execute political prisoners. The guillotine was brought to Vietnam by the French and was last used in 1960.
War Remnants Museum also displays graphic photographs of the damaged corpses of people who were exposed to a powerful pesticide and chemical known as "Agent Orange" while they were still in the womb. Between 1961 and 1971, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimated that 500,000 infants were born with birth abnormalities and that 4.8 million individuals were exposed to them.
The government-run War Remnants Museum is located in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City. It is open from 07:30 to 17:00 every day of the year. Most people find a visit to this war museum distressing, and it may not be appropriate for children (though they are allowed to enter)
