Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum is one of the most important museums in preserving the cultural, artistic heritage treasure of the Vietnamese ethnic community.
The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, located directly across the street from the Temple of Literature, is plainly visible from afar. It was created in the 1930s as a girl's school for Indochina's high-ranking officers, like many other museums in Hanoi. It was renamed the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in 1966, and it now houses many of Vietnam's creative treasures.
Many of the museum's exhibits date back to pre-historic and feudal times, and include paintings, pottery, and lacquers created by current post-war artists.
Unfortunately, many of the works of art on display are reproductions, as the originals were largely destroyed during the Vietnam War. It is worthwhile to see this landmark after visiting the Temple of Literature. At the main door, there are guided tours available in English and French.
