Thai Vi Temple is now located in Van Lam village, Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, with concave terrain and many caves as a result of geological tectonics that have created beautiful landscapes for this piece of this land. Thai Vi Temple also left many imprints through historical dynasties, typically during the Tran Dynasty.
Thai Vi Temple was the Truong Yen base to fight the Nguyen – Mong invaders. This is a place of worship and memorial for kings of the Tran Dynasty such as: Tran Thai Tong, Tran Thanh Tong, Hien Tu Thai Hau, having great merits for the country in general and Vu Lam area in particular (encourage people in the area to reclaim wasteland into plowing fields and establish villages). In addition, the relic also worships King Tran Nhan Tong and Tran Anh Tong.
Thai Vi Temple is an architectural work in the Nguyen Dynasty style. The main temple consists of a 3-arch building with 28 stone pillars 3.2 high, including 22 square stone columns. The round stone columns are carved with the chisels of the four spirits, dragon roll water is very sophisticated and skillful. The system of beams, rafters, and purlins are all made of ironwood. There is also a bell tower built in the reign of King Duy Tan. The bell tower has a 2-storey architecture with 8 roofs, including 32 ironwood columns. The system supporting the roofs, columns, and beams are all made of ironwood. The monument also preserves many valuable artifacts.
Thai Vi Temple was not only a resistance base of the Dai Viet army and people against the Nguyen – Mong army in the 13th century, but also a base for the revolution during the resistance war against the French.
Thai Vi Temple relic today is a place of spiritual and cultural activities of the people, a place where festival activities imbued with national cultural identity take place, combined with Tam Coc–Bich Dong landscapes to create a complex of historical sites and scenic spots. With those values, Thai Vi Temple was ranked as a National Historical and Cultural Relic as a National Historic and Cultural Relic in 1994.
