Nha Rong harbor (or Ho Chi Minh Museum, branch in Ho Chi Minh City) is a renowned Saigon tourist attraction. In 1911, this is where President Ho Chi Minh set off on his quest for national redemption. Every year, millions of Vietnamese and foreign tourists visit Nha Rong Wharf.
Nha Rong, which translates to "House of Dragon," is one of Ho Chi Minh City's few remaining French-style structures. It is a wonderful blend of Eastern and Western design, located beside the Saigon River. "This home was built by the French between 1862 and 1863," says Thu Nguyet, a site guide. Two porcelain dragons facing the moon are symmetrically set on the roof. The house was given the name "Dragon House" as a result of this. It is situated in the "Nha Rong Port" harbor.
The Imperial Couriers used to be stationed at the Dragon House. The place is most famous today for being the beginning of Ho Chi Minh's search for national redemption. "In the past, Nha Rong harbor was a significant seaport for Saigon-Gia Dinh," says another guide, My Hanh. Using the name Van Ba, the young Ho Chi Minh set off from this port in search of a road to national salvation.
At 21 years old, Van Ba sailed to France aboard the ship Admiral Latouche Treville in June 1911. After traveling to numerous locations around the world for thirty years, he returned to Vietnam as Ho Chi Minh to lead the revolution. He read the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence, which established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945, in historic Ba Dinh Square. After the liberation of Saigon and national reunification in 1975, Nha Rong (Dragon House) became a memorial place devoted to the great Vietnamese leader. This structure was upgraded in 1995 to become a branch of the Ho Chi Minh Museum. The museum had three exhibit rooms and a 250-square-meter footprint in its early days.
It now spans over 148,000 square meters and features nine display halls. More than 11,300 documents and artifacts are on display, with 450 of them being displayed outside, providing tourists with information about Ho Chi Minh's life and revolutionary activities. A delegate of a Lao Revolutionary Party delegation wrote in the museum's guest book: "President Ho Chi Minh is not just a great leader of Vietnam, but also of ours." A Bulgarian tourist wrote: "President Ho Chi Minh's wonderful charisma is adored by millions of people around the world." An English visitor wrote: "Ho Chi Minh is one of the greatest figures of the twentieth century."
