Fito Museum, Vietnam's first and only private museum dedicated to traditional medicine, has done an excellent job with its extensive collection of one-of-a-kind objects. Furthermore, the museum as a whole is clean and well-organized, with English-speaking staff. Visiting this museum could provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of Vietnamese traditional herbal medicine, spanning thousands of years. If you are interested in medicine, this is a must-see attraction in the city.
Fito Museum, with its ancient Northern Delta architecture, is located at 41 Hoang Du Khuong Street in Ho Chi Minh City's 10th District. Mr. Le Khac Tam, who has been researching traditional medicine for many years, built it. Fito Museum, which has six storeys and 18 rooms, first opened to the public in 2007. To create a warm and historic ambience, the museum owner employed wooden door frames that were transferred from the Northern Delta. Fito Museum has various photographs, objects, and other exhibits that provide visitors with an overview of all traditional medical activities from ancient times to the present.
The Fito Museum houses over 3,000 rare artifacts relating to traditional Vietnamese medicine from the Stone Age to the present day, including a 2.500-year-old round knife – mortar boat used to cut and pound herbs, as well as artifacts brought from the homelands of Zen master Tue Tinh and famous healer Hai Thuong Lan Ong – Le Huu Trac. The Fito Museum houses a large collection of old literature on traditional medicine, including some rare book series such as Nam Duoc Than Hieu and Y Tong Tam Tinh, each of which includes 28 episodes and 66 volumes. The museum was visited by many tourists, including experts from Korea, China, and Japan, who thought it was highly admirable and interesting.
Tourists that visit Fito Museum can participate in the process of herbal production, such as cutting and pounding herbs and tasting the medications. There is also a medical care facility at the museum. Tourists can undergo traditional medicine examinations and treatments, as well as purchase herbal remedies.
The Fito Museum has drawn tens of thousands of visitors to date, making it one of Ho Chi Minh City's most popular destinations. The museum is open everyday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with adult tickets costing VND 120.000 and children's tickets costing VND 60.000 (less than 1.2m).
