Located about 400m from the east gate of King Dinh Tien Hoang temple along the direction of Trang An and adjacent to the east citadel of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital.
Most of the Am Tien pagoda cave area is a flooded valley surrounded by cliffs. Legend has it that King Dinh raised tigers here, then let the executed people in. Whoever escapes will be exonerated.
To enter the Am Tien pagoda cave, after passing through the gate, you go down a path on the left hand side, next to a large lake where lotuses, water lilies, Tong Truong perch and turtles are released. The water here is especially clear and blue. You can see the bottom with a lot of moss covering the bottom of the lake.
Am Tien Pagoda is located in the mountains, surrounded by mountains in all directions. Climb over 205 stone steps over the cliff to reach Am Tien Pagoda where saint Nguyen Minh Khong is worshiped. This is also the place where in the last years of her life, Empress Dowager Duong Van Nga ordained as a monk. The cave is shaped like a dragon's mouth, so it is also called dragon cave. In the cave, there are many stalactites in the cave with the shape of a rice tree, a money tree, a Buddha's hand fruit, a drooping lotus flower... as beautiful as a picture.
