Women's Museum where Vietnam honors Vietnamese women in a distinct, if not sacred way. The mission statement of the museum is to enhance public knowledge and understanding of history and cultural heritage of Vietnamese women... thus contributing to promote gender equality.
Women in traditional costumes; women's cultural qualities exhibited through handicrafts; women and the national fight; the Vietnam Women's Association and feminism; and women and ethnicity are among the topics covered by the Vietnam Women's Museum.
In addition, there are frequently exhibitions on contemporary women, such as women who work as street vendors or women who are mothers. The Vietnam Women's Museum is well worth a few hours of your time, especially for those interested in learning more about culture and gender.
The Vietnam Women's Museum first opened its doors to the public in 1995. It was refurbished over a four-year period, from 2006 to 2010. More than 1000 documents, images, and items on display in the permanent exhibition demonstrate the historical and contemporary roles of Vietnamese women in the arts and in home life. In addition, the museum hosts thematic exhibitions that depict changes and developments in contemporary society.
The museum's mission statement reads, "To develop public knowledge and understanding of Vietnamese women's history and cultural heritage, therefore contributing to gender equality," the museum's mission statement reads.
