Hon Khoai, Hon Sao, Hon Doi Moi, Hon Da Le, and Hon Tuong are the five islands that make up Hon Khoai in Cau Mau province, Mekong Delta. Hon Khoai is the largest of them all. Tourists can reach the island by boat in roughly two hours from the Rach Goc Estuary. Tourists may observe the vibrant panorama of the blue water, bright sunlight, and green mangrove trees from afar on their trip there.
Hon Khoai was previously known as Giang Huong Island, or Independence Island. However, because it resembles a gigantic potato, the inhabitants begin to refer to it as Hon Khoai (Potato Island). The island is great for nature lovers due to its abundant freshwater supply and diverse flora and fauna, which includes many valuable medicinal herbs such as multiflorous knotweed, fungus, cinnamon twig, and animals such as varan, python, and squirrel.
Nho (Small) Beach, in the southwest of the island, is so shallow that guests can come ashore with a smaller boat. The beach, on the other hand, is rustic and appealing, with lush trees, clear sea water, and gentle waves. On the right side of the beach, guests will enjoy a gorgeous egg-stone beach bordered by casuarina trees. Tourists on the eastern side of the island can relax in the cool, clear water at Lon (Big) Beach, or simply lie down on white sand and gaze out at distant islands lit up by the sun, fishing boats bobbing up and down between the waves. The scenery is similar to that of a high-end resort.
Young tourists are eager to trek to the summit of the mountain to view a lighthouse via a zigzag trail shaded by tropical plants such ironwood, pine, jackfruit, and mango... In rock crevices, a variety of wildflowers bloom. They can also listen to the twittering of birds, smell the magnolia blossoms in the air, and pause beside little springs to reflect in the clear water. It truly is a heaven.
The lighthouse on Hon Khoai Island was built in 1920 by French colonists and stands at a height of 318 meters. Its architecture is still intact. It's one of the first construction locations in Vietnamese territorial seas. The lighthouse keepers are also eager to teach visitors about the island, their daily lives here, storms, and even homesickness. They are always eager tour guides who show visitors a stele near the lighthouse commemorating the revolt on Hon Khoai Island. Locals and soldiers retook the island from French colonists in 1940, under the leadership of the Communist Party.
