Cuc Phuong, the first national park of Vietnam, has a rich cultural and wildlife legacy as well as beautiful scenery. Cuc Phuong was established in 1962 with total area of 22,408 hectares, only 120 kilometers southwest of Hanoi and set among the provinces of Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh (deep in the heart of Tam Diep mountain range).
Biodiversity of Cuc Phuong National Park
Cuc Phuong is characterized by tropical rainforests that are green all year round, has an extremely rich and diverse flora and fauna. According to recent survey data, Cuc Phuong has 2234 species of higher plants and mosses, among which there are 433 species of medicinal plants and 229 species of edible plants. Many species are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam.Regarding animals, Cuc Phuong has 122 species of reptiles and amphibians, 66 species of fish, nearly 2000 species of insects, and 135 species of mammals (including the black-and-white-breeded langur, which is a very beautiful and rare primate chosen as the symbol of Cuc Phuong National Park). With 336 resident bird species, especially many endemic to Vietnam and Indochina, Cuc Phuong has long been an ideal spot for birdwatchers.
