Nha Trang's food industry rivals the city's image as a beachy party destination. Of course, Nha Trang's seafood is famous for its marine riches, but the resort town has more to offer foodies than crab legs and coasts. Here are 5 of the best and most well-known speciality cuisines to try during your visit to Nha Trang.
1. Fresh Seafood
Fresh, fermented, steamed, or stir-fried crabs and clams; shrimp, squid, and shellfish The seafood in Nha Trang is commonly regarded as the best in the country, regardless of how it is prepared. The ocean route is lined with seafood restaurants just north of the Tran Phu bridge. In the live display, point to the catch you want to see swimming in buckets or chilling on ice. The server will charge you by the kilogram for your selection and will ask you how you want it prepared. Spend the evening here with a group of friends, eating the freshest seafood possible while the ocean breeze sets the tone.
2. Bun Sua – Rice vermicelli with jellyfish
Nothing beats a steaming hot bowl of jellyfish noodle soup for breakfast in Nha Trang. Bun Ca Sua is a vermicelli soup with jellyfish, grilled fish, and vegetables on top. The transparent soup is served with chiles and fresh lemon and is charmingly simple. The tiny brine complements the acidity and bite perfectly, and just a few drips lift the entire bowl.
Although Bun Ca is eaten all over the country, Bun Ca Sua is one of Nha Trang's most recognized attractions, and is only found in the city. In the same way that a trip to Hue would be incomplete without a bowl of Bun Bo Hue (Hue beef noodles), a trip to Nha Trang would be incomplete without a bowl of Bun Sua.
3. Nem Nuong – Grilled Pork Rolls
Nha Trang's award-winning specialty is Nem Nuong. Grilled, seasoned, and fermented pig sausages are used to make these tasty finger snacks. Making these is a dining experience, a communal dinner best shared with friends.
While the coals are still hot, place the sausages on the tabletop grill. Then, using lettuce, herbs, and rice noodles, bundle them up neatly in rice paper. To finish the dish, drizzle it with a special shrimp-peanut sauce.
4. Banh Can – Baked Rice Flour Cake
Although Banh Can can be found in other parts of Vietnam, it is peculiar to Nha Trang. Individually prepared rice flour pancakes are cooked in little circular clay pots. Following that, each pancake is topped with a range of ingredients, ranging from shrimp and squid to dried or fresh meat. In Nha Trang, quail eggs are a highly famous bánh căn topping that can be found all around the city. The small eggs appear to be the perfect complement to the miniature pancakes.
As a side dish, pork meatballs, fried pig skins, scallions, and shredded green mango are combined. Toss them together with the dressing and serve... but watch out! Banh Can is small and delectable enough to be consumed in a single sitting, bite after voracious bite.
5. Bo Lac Canh – Lac Canh Grilled Beef
Lac Canh is a restaurant known for its grilled beef, which is so well-known that the dish is named after it. There are other dishes on the menu, but the Bo Lac Canh is the most popular.
The marinade for the beef is made with a top-secret recipe that includes honey and at least ten distinct spices. The meat is chopped into small pieces after marinating, each one a fragrant, succulent, bite-sized delicacy. The plate of raw beef will be presented with fresh veggies and a chili-lime-salt dipping sauce, and the traditional oven will be set up in the center of the table with a grill over hot embers.
Place the marinated beef strips on the grill and cook for about 15 minutes, or until each piece is tender. When grilled over hot charcoal, the flavor becomes more nuanced, sweet, and peppery. Dip the melt-in-your-mouth beef in the dipping sauce, then serve with cool vegetables and sweet-salty-spicy-citrus pieces for an amazing dining experience.
Bo Lac Canh is best known for its eponymous restaurant, Bo Nuong Lac Canh, although it's not the only place where it's served. Alternatives include 44 Nguyen Binh Khiem Nha Trang, which serves this must-try Nha Trang delicacy.
