Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) has a tropical climate and weather with two primary seasons: dry and wet. This is due to its geographic location. It's a typical boiling hot Southeast Asian metropolis, with temperatures ranging from hot and dry to hot and wet. The wet season runs from May to November, and the dry season is from December to April. Let's learn about the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City together through the below article.
1. Dry season in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
December, January, and February are the ideal months to visit Ho Chi Minh City because they are the most popular months of the year for practically all travelers. Because the heat is no longer an issue, you can take a leisurely stroll around Saigon and take in the ambiance. The temperature can be as low as 17°C (62°F) in the mornings, rising to roughly 24–26°C (75–78°F) in the afternoons and evenings as the day progresses.
Christmas, New Year, and the Vietnamese Lunar New Year are just a few of the major festivals and public holidays that take place in December, January, and February (also locally known as the Tet Holiday). The dynamic metropolis will become even more beautiful during this time due to the abundance of dazzling lights and festive decorations.
Despite the fact that Vietnam is largely Buddhist, the Christmas spirit is widespread in major cities such as Saigon. When you are at a new destination during the holiday season, seeing so many large Christmas trees and Christmas decorations in every part of this magnificent place may make you feel at home.
Between January and February, the Lunar New Year (aka Tet Holiday) occurs. The city will be brightened by gorgeous flowers, and Tet-related music will be heard everywhere. During the first three days of the Lunar New Year, however, the city becomes fairly vacant as locals leave the main cities to visit their families in their hometowns. Don't be shocked if most shops, local restaurants, and retail centers are closed during the Tet Holidays.
When it comes to March and April, the dry season will be hotter and drier. During these months, the temperature can reach 36 – 40°C (97 – 104°F) on most days. If you are escorted by one of our comfortable A/C vehicles, don't worry; our local tour guides will be flexible in finding A/C at shopping centers and coffee shops all throughout the city if you need to take a break during your day excursion.
2. Wet season in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
The humidity is higher than average from May until the beginning of November, and heavy showers are more common. This is an indication that the monsoon season is approaching.
After a string of sweltering days, the rain begins to fall in short bursts to cool down Saigon. The daily downpours can provide relief from the heat for travelers visiting Ho Chi Minh City from cooler climates during the rainy season. Be aware that the water may continue to fall for several days in a row, especially during storms in August, September, and October. If you have a limited travel budget, this may be the best time for you to go.
The city's weather in the rainy season is sometimes described as "like a teenage girl with mood swings" by local Saigonese since it is difficult to predict. The sun beams brightly early in the morning. It suddenly begins to rain fiercely, forcing passengers to pull over and put on raincoats. The rain then abruptly comes to a halt.
Many individuals believe that visiting Saigon at any time of year is still a good idea, and we can't argue with them. If you don't mind the heat, we recommend visiting the city during the dry season. However, if you want to see Saigon on a rainy day with a mild temperature, visit during the wet season. Because one of the biggest advantages of the rainy season is that it saves money on lodging and attracts fewer people.
