Sapa Stone Church, also known as the Holy Rosary Church, is located in the middle of Sapa town and was built by the French in the early twentieth century. The French architect carefully picked the landscape before beginning to construct this edifice. The church was created in the shape and architecture of a cross. This architecture was visible in the roof, bell tower, and other parts of the church, resulting in a beautiful structure.
The entire Sapa church is made of stone (walls, flooring, bell towers, etc.) that is connected with a sand, lime, and molasses mixture. Sapa church has ample space for the region to be organized, with a total area of over 6000m2.
The Sapa church is often a gathering site for ethnic minorities' traditional cultural activities. On Saturdays, a tennis court in front of the church hosts various cultural performances by locals. With the flute, trumpet leaves, and the "xòe" dance, Sapa was transformed into a shining, enchanting place.
Furthermore, because the church was built early in history, the Sapa church has witnessed many historical events. Since its inception, the church has always had priests to serve parishioners. However, due to the presence of Japanese troops, the church's operations came to a halt many years later. Later on, the conflict causes practically all activity to be halted. Following that, the church became a rice storage facility.
