Halong Bay's fishing villages are one of its most unique features. Ba Hang, Cua Van, Vung Vieng, and Cong Dam are among the communities in the World Heritage Site.
Many Halong Bay junks and cruise ships sail by one of these floating towns and would most likely make a brief stop at a fish farm to monitor everyday life or simply to let visitors see how the locals live. The visit to the floating village was deemed to be the most enjoyable of the several activities on the program. Some locals came to pick you up in a small sampan and took you on a tour of their community.
In Vietnam's Halong Bay, the fishing village is a cultural and tourist attraction. Local people are Halong Bay's original residents, having lived on the water for generations. Fishermen in Halong Bay's zone, which is hundreds of kilometers from the mainland, live on boats and floating wooden cottages. They do not own any land, and fishing and aquaculture are their primary sources of income. They developed a diversified fishing and lifestyle culture.
Residents were recently ordered to migrate inland by the government in order to improve their quality of life and their children's access to education, as well as to safeguard the fragile maritime ecosystem of Halong, which was beginning to suffer from the fish trade. Tourists can now learn about the inhabitants and their way of life by visiting the floating villages, which have been preserved as a sort of museum. One of the most instructive and fascinating things to do in Halong is to visit the floating communities. For a day, pretend to be a native and learn about their lives.
