Tourists can take a sampan excursion in the Mekong Delta region, particularly in Cai Be and Ben Tre, which are only a 2-hour drive from Saigon. You can visit one of these two destinations in a day or travel further to Can Tho and Chau Doc.
Traveling by traditional sampan along meandering, tiny canals under the shade of coconut trees is a wonderful way to see the Mekong Delta's beauty and uniqueness. After you've settled into your seat, a local sampan boat will carry you through mangrove forests to various tourist sights.
Along the way, guests will stop at a local fruit orchard, coconut candy factory, or brick kiln, among other places, to engage with locals and gain a better understanding of their daily lives.
One difference between a sampan excursion and a cruise is that destinations and activities are unimportant, but the sensation of tranquility you get when you view everything on both sides is a genuine gift. Lunch is served on certain sampans, providing you with yet another fascinating experience.
You can begin your sampan excursion in the delta by visiting Thoi Son Islet (Tien Giangg), Tra Su Cajuput woodland (An Giang), and Thi Tuong Lagoon (Ca Mau). A small boat that can accommodate 3–4 people.
