The greatest way to take in the most scenic landscapes of Ninh Binh is by taking a boat tour. The main starting sites for boat journeys are Tam Coc and Trang An or Thung Nham, but less popular and touristic attractions can be found near Bich Dong Pagoda and between Trang An and Hoa Lu.
A boat journey through Ninh Binh's magnificent landscapes and along the mild streams, with its rice fields, rolling Karst mountains, and fanciful water cave systems, are highlights of any Ninh Binh boat tour.
Boats typically wait for a party of four to form before departing, with a local lady rowing.
For a couple of hours, local rowers will paddle small boats along the river, passing through caves, rice fields, and karst formations. You will also see Thai Vi Temple if you start from Tam Coc wharf. It's debatable if one path is better than the other, but we recommend using the one that best suits your needs.
Trang An and Tam Coc are popular tourist attractions in Ninh Binh, so should not expect to have the river to yourself. However, if you avoid weekends and Vietnamese holiday seasons, it would be greater.
