Hue Festival is the most major cultural festival conducted biennial celebration in Hue City, dedicated to honor the cultural and historical values of Hue Citadel and the Hue city's surroundings. Each Hue festival season lasts at least a week (typically in April, May, or June). In the year 2000, the Hue Festival was held for the first time.
Hue Festival has evolved into a platform for cross-cultural engagement. Visitors can experience a colorful and grand opening ceremony with one-of-a-kind performances by numerous art groups from Vietnam and other countries, which kicks off the festival.
During Hue Festival has been taken place, there are various cultural events, such as the Massive Street Arts Performances, Art Exhibitions, Hue Poetry Festival, the Dialogue of Drums and Percussion Instruments, and the Week of Vietnam's Historical Films. Alternatively, guests can come to Gastronomy Quarters, Traditional Kite Flying Festival, or watch “Ao dai” Grand Show, “Oriental Night” Show, and sporting events such as boat racing, human chess, and so on to learn about some of Vietnam's traditional values.
Notably, at the Hue Festival, many ancient scenes from the Nguyen Dynasty are also recreated, giving travelers a glimpse into Vietnam's feudal age. The Nam Giao Offering Ritual, Xa Tac Offering Ritual, and the Royal Refined Music of Hue, which was designated as an Oral Masterpiece and Humanity's Intangible Heritage by UNESCO in 2003, are examples of typical events of the festival.
Hue Festival is renowned as an international festival in which cultures of several countries collide and in which traditional and cultural Vietnamese values are widely exposed to the globe.
