For a public course, Long Bien Golf Course is in exceptional shape; it has a first-rate layout and first-rate amenities. It has been noted by Robert Bicknell, a contributor to VMG, that the public course in Hanoi is in excellent shape.
Long Bien Golf Course, which is the closest facility in the north and just 30 minutes from the heart of Hanoi, The Long Bien and the brand-new Tan Son Nhat Golf Course, which we reviewed in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this month, are both owned and operated by Lam Corporation.
The Long Bien Golf Course includes a sizable, opulent clubhouse with an entrance that seems like it belongs in a five-star hotel and is complete with a huge crystal chandelier. The Long Bien Golf Club, which was created by Nelson & Haworth, is in exceptional shape for a public course. Typically, fairways are parallel to one another, and the course's outside boundaries are marked by out-of-bounds areas. Most of the holes are framed by large mounds and rows of palm trees.
The Long Bien Golf Course is very short overall, but numerous deep bunkers, water hazards, and out-of-bounds have been included to make the course more player-friendly. Typically, the bunkers are placed 200 meters or less from the tees to intercept errant drives. I got into a few bunkers and discovered that they were pretty deep and packed with soft sand. The greens on the course are in excellent shape. Most greens have safe landing places, allowing for a small margin of error. Since most of the greens are elevated, golfers with strong short games have a good chance of shooting par.
The driveable third hole, a par four, is one of the more intriguing holes on the front nine. It becomes a challenging up-and-down for those who attempt to reach in one but miss. One of their defining holes is the downhill, par-3 sixth, which calls for a tee shot over water to a multi-tiered green. It would be simple for those who approach the green in the incorrect position to finish with three putts.
The final hole on the front nine is a short par-5 and one of the simpler birdie possibilities at Long Bien Golf Course; it necessitates strong approach posture.
The 14th hole on the back nine is another appealing par-3 that may be challenging when the wind is blowing. If the tee ball misses the green, there is water on the left and a run-off area to the right, making a bogie possible.
The final hole of Long Bien Golf Course is the hardest par-5 since bunkers affect all three strokes to the green. Accuracy is rewarded, and it's important to get the approach correct, especially with the challenging approach over water to the green.
The public Long Bien Golf Course has affordable rates that include the green charge, caddie fee, and shared golf cart. Footlights illuminate the course into the night, allowing afternoon rounds to be enjoyed without concern for the lowering sun. They hope to someday offer golf around the clock. After finishing our round, we ate dinner with the club workers in their main restaurant, which provides both regional and international cuisine.
With a high level of service, and good condition of the course, the Long Bien Golf Course will be a course many golfers frequently visit.
