The Ha Long Bay par 72 golf course borders the Tuan Chau Golf Resort's course, which is located on reclaimed land on Tuan Chau Island and measures between 7,388 and 5,220 yards. The Pacific Coast Design's Tuan Chau course joins the firm's previously finished Kings Island - Mountainview, Heron Lakes, and Ruby Tree courses.
Tuan Chau Golf Resort, which consists of two 9-hole loops, offers a links-like feel with its rolling fairways, more than 100 tiny pot bunkers, and sizable undulating greens. The design, however, is not intended to be a faux links-style but rather more of a homage to those foundation roots of golf due to the water on all but two of the holes, numerous big beach bunkers, and a landscape predominated by palm trees. The all-year use of Platinum Seashore Paspalum grass offers appropriate playing conditions.
At Tuan Chau Golf Resort, even though many courses are long, the two short par 4’s, holes 5 and 14, can still be enjoyable. These are some illustrations of how shorter holes may be just as challenging as the excruciatingly long ones that appear to predominate on many contemporary courses. The 5th hole, which plays slightly downhill, is a probable driveable par 4, but errant or poor tee shots will be met by sand and water, and the approach shot will need to be accurate because the green slopes away from the approaching player. Every time a player plays the hole, they reevaluate their shot strategy due to the abundance of risk/reward options that the 14th offers.
Despite having identical playing lengths, the four par 3’s holes of Tuan Chau Golf Resort presents unique challenges, with the eighth being the most difficult. Vietnam served as the inspiration for the green, fairway, and contours, while the island-like peninsula serves as the location for the entire hole.
The Ga Choi Islet or "Rooster – Hen Islet" formation, which is close to Ha Long Bay and its UNESCO-listed limestone karats, served as inspiration for the Tuan Chau Golf Resort. The iconic profile of these rock formations is reflected in two of the greens and numerous bunker designs. The course's final four holes might be the most difficult ones in Vietnam. One par 5’s, three par-4’s, and a par 3’s all have water-related hazards. The "Chicken Run" refers to holes 15 through 19 because they put players to the test as they go through their rounds.
Every hole at Tuan Chau Golf Resort is lit by floodlights, allowing for late afternoon or nighttime play. Due to the close proximity of the holes and the minimal elevation variations, the course is very accessible.
Golfers may forget they are playing in Vietnam and mistakenly believe they are back in Germany or Switzerland thanks to the European-style clubhouse. The personnel at Tuan Chau Golf Resort speak only Vietnamese, so it is important to bring a guide despite the excellent service and amenities.
