Fansipan mountain, at 3,143m, like a fairyland, covered by clouds throughout the year, approximately 9 kilometers southwest of Sapa, is located in Lao Cai province. It is part of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, which is located in the northwest of Vietnam on the border of two provinces: Lao Cai and Lai Chau.
Fansipan mountain has a varied flora, with 1,680 types of plants, some of which are uncommon and only found here. As a result, any tourist, particularly those interested in botany, will find the mountain to be an interesting natural destination.
At Fansipan mountain area, plants vary in type depending on altitude: jackfruit tree, cotton tree (bombax ceiba), pterocarya; vast rainforest with tangled vines; gymnosperms (seed-bearing plants) like fokienia, pine trees, and short phyllostachy (25-30cm high), and some species of the genus rose, chrysanthemums, and so on are found from 700m to more than 2000m; In addition, especially in the spring, climbers can witness exquisite orchids, drodohendrons, and wild flowers along the path to the summit.
There are several waterfalls near the foot of Mount Fansipan, such as Cat Cat, Silver Waterfall (Thac Bac), Cold Waterfall (Thac Lanh), and Dragon Jaw Waterfall (Thac Ham Rong), as well as on the approach to the peak, such as Love Waterfall (Thac Tinh Yeu). Climbers will appreciate the opportunity to rest and photograph these waterfalls after a long hike.
The months of September through March are ideal for Fansipan mountain climbing. However, it would be ideal if the conquest could be completed around the end of February, when the mountain's flowers are in bloom.
To reach and conquer Fansipan mountain from Hanoi, tourists should take the overnight train Hanoi – Sapa (333km) from Hanoi, which arrives in Lao Cai province early the following morning. Then, tourists travel to Sapa by car or public bus from Lao Cai (38km). Tourists leave Sapa town for Tram Ton, Cat Cat, or Sin Chai, as planned, to begin their conquest of Fansipan.
