Banh Mi's origins
The French first brought Banh Mi to Vietnam during their colonial time. It was an adaptation of the baguette that was all the rage in France in the 1800s. After many years, the Vietnamese developed their own bread with various components to satisfy the native palate.
Banh Mi's ingredients
The surface of a proper Banh Mi is crunchy, while the middle is moist and mushy. Different fillings, such as pate (made from meat and liver of animals), pork terrine, cucumbers, sliced ham, herbs, scrambled eggs, pickled cabbage, and so on, will be inserted into different fillings based on different preferences.
The bread will be baked in the oven for a few minutes after being filled with enough ingredients, and then served with chili sauce and mayonnaise. The rolls will be made according to a slightly different recipe in each location.
